My Conflict Managing Strategy
My most common conflict strategy is "Smoothing."
I agree with this result because I sometimes regard as more important the relationship than my goal.
If there is a conflict between me and other person or in my team, I will try to solve the problems and overcome the conflict at first. Therefore, I will provide an opportunity to discuss the conflict. And then, I will try to make the discussion open and good for each other. However, if the open discussion causes breaking off relationship, I do not want to insist on my opinion. At the same time, I may think again about my opinion or goal. "Is my opinion or goal so important that I make the relationship break down?" Thus, I may tend to give up insisting on my opinion after asking myself such question. Therefore, it can be said that my common conflict strategy is "Smoothing."
From now on, I will try to achieve my goal while keeping the relationship, if I strongly hope that my goal will come true. Therefore, I will keep in my mind the UMBRELLA approach which Ken explained in a class.

Writing Assignment 5
Chapter 9: Risk
This chapter says that there are times for taking a risk, and that we have to calculate the odds and have the courage when taking a risk.
When I read this chapter, I thought that there are two kinds of the risk. One is a needless, unnecessary risk. The other is a calculated, necessary risk. Therefore, it is important to judge whether a risk is needless or not and take the risk which we should take.
I think that Shackleton did his best in judging and taking a risk. It would be difficult to decide to take a risk at the Edge. However, he did. He might think that not taking a risk would lead to a risk. As a result, in order to change the terrible situation like a shortage of food, he took a risk as a leader.
If I am anticipating taking a significant risk, I will communicate this risk to others. As mentioned above, there are two kinds of the risk. Therefore, I need to tell others that the risk which I am going to take is necessary and calculated for making the sitiation better. Thus, it is important for everyone in team to understand the meaning of taking a risk.

Writing Assignment 4
Chapter 7: Conflict
As you know, conflict is difficult to deal with. When I read this chapter, I remembered my basketball team in junior high school.
My team members got along well because we always experienced and overcame hard training together. However, there were often conflicts in my team. Especially, captain and vice-captain often stood in opposition about the strategies of the game or the schedule for training. Then, they argueed with each others and sometimes all of the members did. It is true that we argued, but we got along really well. I could not understand at that time why we got along well in spite of being many conflicts. However, I could understand the reason when reading the text.
This message of "a series of small tremors prevented a major earthquake"(104) seemed to be the reason. We, especially captain and vice-captain tried to make our team better and stronger. We had the same eagerness, but how to change eagerness into concrete activities was different from each others. Whenever we could not be convinced of other members' opinion and thinking, we expressed ours. (sometimes it might not rational but emortional way...) Perhaps, it would be a series of small tremors.
Also, another reason why we got along well is to have the same goal, becoming a strong team. Therefore, we could overcome the difficult situation of conflict. I think that this is related to "Conflict is a pervasive element.....strenthen bonds among team members"(104). At the same time, this quotation seems to be related to Writing Assignment 3 about "mistakes". Mistakes and conflict are inevitable. However, how I do after mistakes or conflict is impotant. Moreover, a leader will be the person who can manage and control such situation.

Writing Assignment 3
Chapter 4: Stamina
If I make a significant mistake or face a disapointment, I cannot deal with it positively at once. As I wrote on writing assignment 2, I am very dissapointed at my mistake or adversity immidiately after facing it. After that, I always try to think positively and overcome desparately. However, in fact, there is a little anxiety or trauma in my mind. Therefore, until now I might be afraid of making a mistake again and could not completely let my feelings of guilt or frustration distract me.
Especially from the message of "Make dicisions, make mistakes, and move your expedition forward"(68) in texts, I feel the importance of making dicisions and mistakes, and changing mistakes into nourishment.
We cannot avoid all of the mistakes even if a nice leader like Shackleton. However, we have to make dicisions in every situation under a possibility of mistakes. Therefore, what is important is the power of changing mistakes into norishment.
I think that we have to learn something from mistakes, not continue to regret or have a feeling of guilt. Probably, it will mean stamina.
We see ourselves and the situation in the long-term and keep a balance in our mind without being too disturbed by mistakes. Such act will lead to success and make us real leaders.
Thus, stamina is one of important elements for leaders. I want to strengthen my stamina from naw on to overcome adversity.
